Additional Prayers for Labor

Prayer for the Sanctification of Labor

O God, the creator of all things, you framed the law of labor for the human race. Graciously grant, by the example and patronage of St. Joseph, that we may do the work you provide us and earn the reward you promise. Sustain us with your grace to live up to our duties in charity and justice. Amen.

Prayer of A Worker

Lord, Jesus Christ, I offer You today all my work, my hopes, my sorrows and joys. Grant me the grace to remain close to You today, to work with You and to do all that I do for Your honor and glory. Help me to love You with all my heart and to serve You with all my strength.

Help me, Lord, to give a full day’s work for a full day’s pay. Help me to respect the property of others, to be honest in dealing with those involved in this task, and to put forth effort with personal interest. Give me the spirit of charity that I may contribute to the happiness of all those with whom I work, and when the job is done, grant us all a peaceful rest.

Saint Joseph, patron of workers, pray for me.

Prayer for Fidelity to Work

Statue of St. Joseph, Lourdes Grotto, St. Mary Oratory, Rockford, IL. (Photo © Scott P. Richert)Glorious St. Joseph, model of all who are devoted to labor, obtain for me the grace to work conscientiously, putting the call of duty above my natural inclinations; to work with gratitude and joy, considering it an honor to employ and develop, by means of labor, the gifts received from God, disregarding difficulties and weariness; to work, above all, with purity of intention and with detachment from self, having always before my eyes death, and the account which I must render of time lost, of talents wasted, of good omitted, of vain complacency in success, so fatal to the work of God. All for Jesus, all for Mary, all after your example, patriarch Joseph. This will be my watchword in life and in death. Amen.
